Remove the Dodger Stadium Gondola Amendment from SB 71

SB 71 is a bill introduced by Scott Wiener, a state senator representing San Francisco, that is currently working its way through the state legislature. Originally, it was proposed to exempt certain transit projects, like pedestrian improvements, bike lanes, and bus lanes, from various elements of CEQA, the California Environmental Quality Act. On May 29, 2025, the bill was amended to add a third section that specifically fast-tracks the LA ART gondola project, but not only in terms of CEQA, but also all other approvals at the local level. This didn't happen by accident. Frank McCourt has spent over $500,000 lobbying state legislators this summer to get help for his ill-conceived gondola, a project that no one asked for, and he isn't paying for.

The bill currently sits in a "suspense file" at the Assembly's Appropriations Committee.

We need the bill's author Scott Wiener, or Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas to remove Section 3. Section 3 only benefits one project in the entire state, and it's the ill-conceived LAART gondola in Los Angeles, which Frank McCourt isn't even paying for. It's messed up that the only two people who can remove Section 3 don't even represent the area. They're both northern California representatives! On August 13, 2025, LA's City Council and Mayor Bass officially rescinded support from SB 71 unless Section 3 is removed. What are they waiting for? Remove it now!

Please send a letter to Scott Wiener, Robert Rivas, and their chief of staff to urge them to do the right thing and remove Section 3, which doesn't even affect their constituents. They shouldn't be doing special favors for a billionaire at the expense of our communities!
